Our chamber is proud to partner with United Way of Southwest Virginia to offer the Careers Expo for Youth to 4,000 students from across the region. It takes employers, schools, sponsors, staff, and volunteers to make the Careers Expo for Youth the amazing opportunity that it is for our students, and we need you!

What is the Careers Expo for Youth? This is not your average career fair. In fact, it’s not a career fair at all. The 2017 United Way of Southwest Virginia Careers Expo for Youth is a two-day career exploration experience for an estimated 4,000 7th grade students at Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon on September 26 and 27, 2017. Students will learn through unique five-minute hands-on activities at employer stations about jobs in 16 different career pathways, employers located in Southwest Virginia, salaries and education levels for careers of their interests, and so much more! To watch a recap video of a similar event in Southern Virginia (pictured above), click here: youtu.be/nwxGw-x8fz0. Students could be able to: climb a utility pole, try on SWAT gear, practice CPR and giving shots, participate in a chemistry experiment, or use a 3-D printer to create an object.
